Monday Hebrews 2:9-18 Jesus was tempted as we are

If you don't have a Bible handy read Hebrews 2:9-18 online.

As I read this passage the phrase, "How can it be?" (from the song "Every move I Make") came to mind.

How can it be that God would do such a thing as to allow Jesus to suffer? How can it be that one can "make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering"? This is an amazing God!

I hate to suffer and what's more, I hate to see my kids suffer, but God allowed Jesus to suffer and die for us! And, by doing so God makes Jesus that much more real to us as Jesus can better to relate to the pain and suffering of humanity. Jesus can relate to my pain and suffering.

In this season of lent we can lay our sin on to our loving Jesus and we can lay our pain and suffering on Jesus. Jesus has "been there and done that" - he now offers heavenly strength and power for daily living in the trenches of our humanity.

Thank you Jesus for coming to us!

I believe suffering and pain do bring us closer to god- I just don't always understand why a loving god would want to see his people suffer-perhaps it is to open our eyes and draw closer to him- but conversely I believe suffering and pain can also turn people away from god. .

I don't think that God wants to cause us suffering and pain and I don't believe that God intentionally inflicts pain/suffering on us. I believe that God weeps with us and longs for the time when there will be no more suffering and pain.
I would say that God allows suffering and pain and God can then use it to his glory. I love Romans 8:26-28 says, "Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good."
